You became a member of SPE for a reason. Think of three reasons why you became a member before you approach a peer.

Introduce SPE to people you know or with whom you do business by just sharing your SPE experiences.

· Share three reasons why you are an SPE member.

· Print a sell sheet that you can use as a reference when talking about membership.

· Invite your peer to attend a Section or Division meeting with you: this allows him/her to test the waters a little bit.

· Invite your peer to visit the SPE website, www.4spe.org to review the type of technical information or technical training available.

· Share the proceedings from a recent ANTEC or information obtained from a recent topical conference that you attended.

Don't forget to ask if he/she's ready to become a member! This is a simple yet often overlooked step. Let them know that because you are recommending them, they will receive a special discount off their first year's dues.

Provide a brochure, membership application or referral card that includes your SPE Member ID number. (Need more collateral materials? Click for a printable membership application or complete the online supply request for more brochures or referral cards.)

Let Headquarters know who was given an application so we can track your success and send a follow-up letter as necessary(See sample follow up letter in AIM Resources). Complete the online action form so your information will automatically be entered into the AIM database. If you prefer, complete a printable action form and return it to us so we can update the database for you.

Follow up. Check the AIM database to see if your recruit has joined SPE. If they have, thank them for joining. If they haven't, remind them why it is important.

If you prefer not to approach a peer directly, complete the online action form with their name and contact information. We will send them a pre-approved membership application indicating that they were recommended to join SPE. (See sample recruitment letter in AIM Resources) We can mention your name or if you prefer you can remain anonymous. The choice is yours!

Congratulations! Thanks for taking AIM. You've just strengthened SPE with another able member that might someday contribute content that will benefit you and your colleagues!
